ULLAPOOL COASTAL ROWING CLUB REGATTA RESULTS 2012Posted: September 6, 2012
Ullapool Coastal Rowing Club Regatta – 11 August 2012
What a great weekend we had; the weather was glorious and all the rowers and spectators from near and far thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. We ran nine races over a 3 km course with 9 boats in attendance, although they didn’t all race in everything. It all started just after the ferry left on Saturday morning and continued till about 4.30 pm, though most folk stayed on the beach enjoying the sun and a well earned refreshment till nearly 6 pm. The ceilidh in the hall started at 8 where ‘Highland Ceilidh’ got everyone up on their feet almost immediately, before the prize giving at the interval.

We were very pleased to see all the visiting boats. Portobello brought 2 boats and Port Seton & North Berwick one each; it’s a long trek for those clubs to come to us and we do appreciate it hugely. We would of course not be complete without our home opposition, ‘Coigach Lass’ & ‘Loki’ but special mention must go to ‘Baile an Or’ from Helmsdale. They just launched her at the beginning of June and will be a force to be reckoned with once they get going. They didn’t get a place in the top three this time but gave a great performance, so well done to them. Incidentally their crew were off to book their accommodation for next July’s World Championships which will be held in Ullapool. We expect 30 plus boats and crews from all over Scotland, the US, Australia and Holland so anticipate Saturday’s activity quadrupled over a weeklong event. See our website www.skiffieworlds.com or www.ullcoastrow.wordpress.com or facebook pages for more details. Many thanks to all who worked hard to make the weekend a great success; all those who got their sleeves rolled up to provide baking, made medals, ran the safety, umpire & photography boats, ran the starts & result recording, took photos, put out turning buoys, helped with marquee & bunting, ran the ceilidh door & bar, cleaned up afterwards plus plenty of other jobs. Well done to all our rowers & coxes, some of whom were surprised to find themselves competing but still put in a good effort. A number of our visitors remarked on what a great facility we have in the village hall, which was a compliment to those who run it. Training now for North Berwick’s regatta at the beginning of September and of course, the Worlds in July 2013 !
