Colourways and Name

For Ullapool Skiffies - The time is rapidly approaching when we will need to be thinking about painting the Skiff. To kickstart the debate a number of possibilities are shown below. These are indications only, the possibilities are endless – come up with your own suggestions and I will add it to the gallery. The idea is to have a multi liveried fleet on the water at regattas – it could be spectacular. So we want something that reflect the good taste and cultural eminence of our syndicate. ;-)

We also need to think of a suitable name – somebody must have an idea kicking around at the back of their mind? Let us have some suggestions. 09/02/10 Update – possible name suggested, ‘Ulla’ – possibly provocatively expanded to ‘Ulla Won’

I quite like the black/ white, white/black, and green/ivory ones, but would be content with any non-pink scheme. Black as night also has a certain menace; can we get matt black? As in the black spaceship in “The Restaurant at the end of the Universe”, which was so black it hurt the eyes.

    • Favour black myself, the gold leaf bling will show up well against it although I have a suspicion (following our industrial espionage the other day and their carelessly filed names list) that the other lot have a tendency towards the blackside.
“The Restaurant at the end of the Universe” – now that’s a thought, lot of signwriting tho’ – and a bit of a mouthful for our cheerleaders.

I forgot to say that bright gunwales would be nice, perhaps using Varnol since they are bound to get knocks.

    • Good stocks are on hand and the ease of repair is second to none, and if ragged over for a satin finish wouldn’t give the crew ‘varnishblindness’, from experience it can be pretty fierce on a sunny day. A good argument for avoiding pure white on the inside. I like a light grey.
